Job Description:

An opportunity has arisen for a Production Engineer with experience of assembly and fabrication processes to join our team in specialist abrasive blast equipment manufacturing. Reporting to Operations Management, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day work of the production team, developing and improving welding processes, rigorously ensuring that all compliance standards are met, and implementing improvements to the systems and processes that we use where possible. This wide-ranging role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to quickly gain exposure and hands-on experience with a number of different manufacturing processes and operations management tools.

Experience of the pressure vessel standards that we work to (the Pressure Equipment Directive and ASME Section VIII) would be beneficial, as would any exposure or familiarity with ERP systems (Epicor preferable, but training can be provided). The ideal candidate will have an eye for detail and process, while being comfortable in adapting to support the varying and fast-changing demands of the factory.

Responsibilities:

  • Support welding activities by developing processes, providing support to operatives, and carry out inspections during fabrication
  • Develop and implement standardised methods of work (SOPs, WIs, etc)
  • Capture and document standard times for factory-wide production activities
  • Working with our ERP system and Planning function to implement standardised methods, planning parameters and the scheduling of production jobs
  • Raise and maintain internal production documentation (Job Sheets, Inspection and Test Plans, etc)
  • Be jointly responsible for the traceability of material and maintaining retention of the data

Key Requirements:

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar manufacturing environment (fabrication, welding and pipework/pressure vessels) and:

  • HND/HNC level in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience in industry
  • Experience in MIG/MAG welding processes and documentation (WPS/WPQ)
  • Experience in the use of production documentation (BoMs, assembly drawings etc).
  • Competent in producing documented methods of work and process instructions (SOP).
  • Familiarity or experience with working to applicable legislation and standards (e.g HSE, LOLER, PUWER, BS EN ISO)
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance methods and implementation
  • Confident in the use of standard MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc)

Desirable:

  • BSc/BEng or higher in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Direct experience in pressure vessel fabrication and applicable build codes and standards (ASME and PED)
  • Familiarity with pneumatic assemblies, components and pipework
  • Experience with the definition of welding processes compliant with ASME IX and/or BS EN ISO 15614
  • CSWIP or other welding inspection certification
  • Experience of using ERP manufacturing systems (Epicor preferable)
