When a coating is applied in the wrong climatic conditions, or to a poorly prepared surface; there is a much greater chance that the coating will blister, delaminate or simply not stick to the substrate. To test how well a coating adheres to a surface, adhesion testers are used.
Using an automatic hydraulic pump for a smooth and continuous pressure application, the Elcometer 510 Automatic Pull-Off Adhesion Gauge accurately measures the adhesion strength of coatings on a wide range of substrates. Ensuring consistent, repeatable results, the gauge has a fully adjustable pull rate of 0.1-1.4MPa/s (14.5-203psi), meeting National and International Standards.
Many Standards including ISO 4624 & ASTM D4541, require the user to record not only the pull-off force but also the nature of the fracture by examining the bottom of the dolly and assessing the adhesive or cohesive failure.
A recently update to the gauge’s attribute recording feature now allows the user to record the nature of the fracture as, either adhesive or cohesive, against each reading stored within the batch.
The user now has the option to record the first failure as either adhesive or cohesive and then enter attribute data for a second failure if required, which may also be either adhesive or cohesive. This allows the user to record against each reading as appropriate:
