How to measure dry film thickness using the Elcometer 456 Coating Thickness Gauge

The Elcometer 456 Coating Thickness Gauge has been designed to take fast and accurate non-destructive dry film thickness measurements.

Fast, reliable and accurate, the new Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauge sets new standards in coating thickness measurements.

Housed in a heavy duty, impact resistant, dust and waterproof case, the Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauge can be used in the laboratory, the production line or in the harshest of environments.

The Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauge is available with either a built in integral probe or as a separate gauge. The integral probe models are ideal for single handed operation. The wide footprint of the Bigfoot™ probe mounted on the gauge case provides good stability on the coated surface during thickness measurement for consistent, repeatable and accurate results.

Separate coating thickness gauge models, with a wide range of straight, right angled, miniature and telescopic probes allow dry film thickness measurement on coatings up to 31mm or 1220mils thick. Underwater, high temperature and armoured probes are also available. Separate coating thickness gauges can be converted to an integral thickness gauge using the PINIP plug in probe.

Available in a range of models for measuring dry film thickness on ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates, the Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauge has a fast reading rate of 70+ readings per minute and 140+ per minute with the Scan probe.

With USB and Bluetooth® data output, individual dry film thickness readings can be transferred to PC or a mobile device for analysis and instant report generation.

Key features of the Elcometer 456 Coating Thickness Gauge include:

  • Thickness measurement capability to ±1% accuracy
  • Measures accurately on smooth, rough, thin and curved surfaces
  • Fast reading rate of 70+ per minute, 140+ per minute with Scan Probe
  • Stores up to 150,000 readings in alpha numeric batches
  • USB and Bluetooth® data output to ElcoMaster® software
